Using Trellis as a Core Group Leader

Trellis is where you keep track of the people you disciple: when you met, what you talked about, which Core Competencies you’ve covered, and what to pray for. Your Resource Team Leader sees the same lists, so you’re both on the same page.

Open Trellis at trellis.chialphaosu.com

Screenshots use made-up names. Yours will show your own team and the people you disciple.

  1. Go to trellis.chialphaosu.com.
  2. Type your primary email address in Planning Center, the one on your Planning Center profile, and tap Email me a code.
  3. Check your email for a message from trellis@chialphaosu.com with a 6-digit code. It can take a minute to arrive.
  4. Type the code into Trellis and tap Sign in.

A code works for one hour. If it doesn’t arrive, check your junk folder or tap Send a new code. Only the newest code works.

If Trellis says you don’t have access yet, your email in Planning Center may be different from the one you typed, or you may not be linked to Planning Center yet. Ask your Resource Team Leader to let an admin know.

On your phone, use Add to Home Screen in your browser’s share menu so Trellis opens like an app. You stay signed in on that device.

Your page

After you sign in, you land on your own page. Scroll down to find, in this order:

  • Resource Team: your team, who disciples you, and your log with them
  • Bible study attendance for each Core Group you lead
  • Who you disciple, with a profile for each person
  • Who you’re fighting for
  • Your Workflows from Planning Center

The Edit button at the top is how you add or remove names and fix entries. More on that below.

Your Resource Team

This shows your team’s Resource Team Leaders, who you’re discipled by, and everyone else on your Resource Team.

Tap Discipleship log ▾ next to your Resource Team Leader’s name to see the meetings they’ve logged with you, newest first. Only they can change it.

The Resource Team section with the Discipleship log opened, showing two meetings with dates and topics.

Bible study attendance

This comes from Planning Center every night, so take attendance there as usual. A filled dot means present, an empty dot means absent, and a blank means no record.

  • On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every week and the attendance rate.
  • Underlined names are people you or your co-leader disciple. Tap one to open their profile.
  • Orange names are group members no one is discipling yet.

Who you disciple

Each person you disciple has a line showing your meetings together, Core Competencies covered, the last time they came to Bible study, and the last time you met.

If you haven’t met with someone in 14 days, their name gets a red flag like ⚠ No meeting in 22 days. Logging a meeting clears it.

Tap a name to open that person’s discipleship profile.

Meetings your Resource Team Leader recorded in your weekly report count too. They show as “week of …”.

Log a meeting

Each time you meet with someone, open their profile and fill in the Discipleship meeting log:

  1. Check the date. It starts on today.
  2. If you went through a Core Competency, pick it from the list. It gets checked off for you.
  3. Type what you talked about.
  4. Tap Log meeting.

The four boxes at the top of the profile update as you go. Your Resource Team Leader can press Sync from your log on your weekly report to check off everyone you met with that week, so logging here saves them from asking.

Core Competencies

Tap Core Competencies on a profile to open the checklist of all 19. Each one links to its materials on SharePoint. Tap the link to open the lesson before you meet.

Check a box when you’ve covered a competency together. The date is saved with it.

Prayer requests, praise reports and notes

Keep a running list of what to pray for and celebrate. Pick Prayer request, Praise report or Other, type it, and tap Add. The newest is at the top, so you can look back before you meet again.

Your Resource Team Leaders and Trellis admins see these under Headlines, so they can pray too. Write what you’d be comfortable with them reading.

Adding and fixing things with Edit

Tap Edit at the top of the page. It turns gold and reads Done editing. While it’s on, you can:

  • Add someone to who you disciple or who you’re fighting for. Start typing their name. If they’re in Planning Center, pick them from the list. If not, choose Add “…” not in Planning Center yet.
  • Remove someone with the × next to their name. Their meetings and notes are kept, and come back if you add them again.
  • Edit or remove a meeting or note on a profile.
  • Uncheck a Core Competency checked by mistake.

Tap Done editing when you’re finished. You don’t need Edit to log a meeting, add a prayer request, or check off a competency.

Your lists are the same ones your Resource Team Leader sees on your weekly report. A change here shows up there too.

Who you’re fighting for

These are the people you’re praying for and pursuing. Most won’t be in Planning Center yet, and that’s fine. Add them with Edit on, the same way as above.

Your Workflows

Open New Contact and Inactive Members cards assigned to you in Planning Center, with the step each person is on and when the card last changed. To move someone forward, do it in Planning Center. Trellis picks it up overnight.
